Our Approach
Tallgrass Building Company was started and developed on the foundation of four core values: Honesty, Commitment to our client, Deliver on our promises and Integrity. We are committed to helping you make the best choices to fit your needs and wants for your new home.
We start with the planning stage. We sit down to discuss and view options and floor plans with you. The planning stage is one of the most important steps in building your new home. We discuss the size, budget, options and location for your new home. Tallgrass Building Company is committed to helping you find exactly what you want while working with you to stay within budget.
Once we finalize the plan, Tallgrass Building Company gets everything started by taking care of the details. We feel it is important to have open communication with you during each step of the building process. We provide regular updates during the course of each step. We don't anticipate problems, but should they arise, we handle all the issues or complaints. Building with us is stress free. If you decide you need to change something along the way, we will make it happen.
We have our own families, so we know how important living in a high quality, safe home is for our clients. We do several code and quality inspections during the course of the building process. All of our homes have storm shelters or safe rooms included in the plan. Your family will be safe in the home we build for you.
Why We Build
We heard too many horror stories from our friends and acquaintances about the ordeal they went through while building their house, and we saw the poor workmanship. Tallgrass Building Company was developed and started to provide a stress-free option for homeowners when building their dream home. Our team has over a decade of home building experience to help our customers through the challenges during the construction phases We offer several house plans with open layouts, big kitchens, and plenty of space for growing families and entertaining friends. With most of our house plans, we can make changes to the layout or design, to fit your family's needs as well as your budget. We have big families with very active children of our own, so we designed the plans for family's on the go... We have parents who want to down-size, we have house plans for that as well.

Matthew Burnett
General Contractor (Class A)/Builder
Matt is committed to helping each customer find, or design, and build their dream home. "My enjoyment is helping others and developing long-lasting relationships. That is the foundation of Tallgrass Building Company."
Matt attended Kansas State University in the late 90's, where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration. Matt worked several jobs during school to reduce student loans and to gain on the job experience, "I've worked everything from cleaning 160 dog kennels at the Vet school each morning to road construction. Building home and remodel project were some of my favorites when I was framing and roofing houses. I believe each job has given me a valuable life-skill."
Matt, his wife, and their four boys enjoy participating in their community. They are active in the schools and with many of the youth programs. "We love watching the community grow and develop with the awesome families in the Kansas City area. We enjoy meeting new families, and we believe everyone we have met has enriched our lives."
Along with being active in the community, Matt has been improving and remodeling houses since he was in High School. His experience and knowledge with quality construction and building code requirements provide the confidence homeowners need to insure their new home will be built to the highest standards.
Matt is qualified with national and local building codes for the Kansas City Kansas and Missouri area communities. Matt is a Class "A" General Contractor, licensed in Johnson County, Kansas.
